Mission Statement

The Montana Clay Tour is a collective of Montana based ceramic artists committed to cultivating the
appreciation of contemporary ceramics through an annual open studio tour. The tour’s objective is to
showcase the talent and diversity of Montana’s ceramics community by inviting the public to engage
with the artist’s intimate studio setting, thereby creating meaningful connections and enriching
our communities.

Our History

The Montana Clay Tour was established in 2016 when a group of Helena based ceramic artists
collaborated to form a studio tour. The two day tour takes place annually in July and consists of six host studios. Each host invites additional artists from across the state to show in their studio, allowing for a variety of work to be displayed at each site.

Who We Are

The Montana Clay Tour is a group of professional ceramic artists based in Helena, Montana. We
care deeply about beauty, craftsmanship, and the community we live in. This is our way of
sharing, educating about, and celebrating handmade ceramic arts while allowing a glimps into
our creative spaces and lifestyles.
We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territories of the Indigenous peoples of this region, specifically the Salish, Crow, Bannock and Blackfeet Tribes among others, and that we occupy this land. This acknowledgement does not take the place of authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, but serves as a first step in honoring the land we occupy and resisting the erasure of Indigenous past, present and future.
