APPLICATION TO PARTICIPATE IN 2023 TOUR DUE JANUARY 10, 2023
The Montana Clay Tour showcases a cross-section of the many clay artists in Montana. We aim to enrich the ceramic community, as well as to educate and entertain the public. We are dedicated to showing and selling high quality ceramic work and we are not affiliated with any group. The current clay tour hosts include: Robert Harrison, Tara Wilson, Joe Crowley, George McCauley, and Giselle Hicks.
In order to apply to be invited to show your work with the tour you must:
1. Live in Montana. Exceptions may be made when, for example, an artist has arranged to rent studio space from a host for the summer, or if a host has an assistant that lives in Montana for most of the year.
2. Not be participating in a residency at any of the clay residencies in Montana (RLCC, Archie Bray Foundation, Clay Studio of Missoula, etc.)
3. Not be a student
4. Consider yourself to be a “professional” artist. This is sometimes difficult to define. You do not have to have an MFA or any kind of qualification to be a professional. You may have another job or be supplementing your income as an artist in other ways. To us, professional means that you are dedicated to ceramics as your main focus and that you make high quality, well-crafted work.
It is not possible to include all qualified artists every year, but we are committed to showing a variety of artists and to rotating these artists from year to year. The host committee will meet in mid-January and make selections from the pool of applicants. Each host will choose a group that works well together for their space. Consequently, an artist might be invited one year and not the next. Or one artist may be invited by one host one year and a different one the next. In other words, an invitation one year does not guarantee you a spot in future years, and if you aren’t invited one year, apply again!
To apply, please send an email to the following address: montanaclaytour@gmail.com
Subject line: application
Include in your email:
1. Your name
2. Your website
3. 3 images of CURRENT work. We want to see what you’re making now and would like to show at the next Montana Clay Tour.
Note: The application is free! However, once invited, there is a $60 fee for each participating artist. This covers all promotional materials, mailings, etc. etc. etc.
